In July 2024, the Federal government introduced the Workplace Justice Visa, a world-first policy that enables temporary migrant workers to remain in Australia in order for workplace exploitation issues to be addressed. Additionally, temporary migrant workers are now able to also access new protection against visa cancellation if they come forward to hold abusive employers to account. These policies reflect many years of advocacy and research concerning the barriers to justice faced by temporary migrant workers in Australia, as well as a policy co-design process between the Department of Home Affairs and numerous organisations. In this ALLA webinar we will hear from two experts at the forefront of the co-design process, Associate Professor Laurie Berg and Clare Middlemas, to discuss the context and significance of this ground-breaking new policy.
